Rolfing in the News: How Much Does It Hurt?

Grace: A Magazine for Women
I read a very typical article recently in the magazine, Grace. It detailed one journalist's experience as she tried Rolfing® for the very first time.

More often than not, the first question I get when I talk to a potential new client is, "How painful will it be?" While Rolfing® does work the fascia which can be tight, in my practice as with most Certified Rolfers® , we work with the client to make sure the level of discomfort is not overwhelming. The idea is not to cause pain, but to loosen the fascia so the body can function more efficiently. The journalist in the article said, "...it was a 'hurts so good' kind of uncomfortable and it didn't linger." She goes on to say how much better her body felt after each session (she has so far completed two).

I'll be interested to follow her progress on her remaining sessions. If you would like to follow her too, read the full article at http://www.theday.com/article/20101201/GRACE01/312019785/-1/grace.

Spring Bicycling is Just Around the Corner

In an article on BicyclePaper.com, Sterling Cassel and Eric Moen talk about the benefits of Rolfing® for bicyclists:

"Bicyclists will notice the ability to breathe more deeply as their rib cage is able to expand with more ease and overall athletic performance will be improved, as muscles are able to perform their jobs more efficiently. Rolfing® also increases ones own body awareness, making it easier to identify which areas are not moving as well as they could, and where power is not transmitting equally during pedal strokes. The benefits and results are long lasting."

As I've noticed with my own clients, benefits like these are not just for avid cyclists.

We often hear people talk about how a cup of coffee in the morning wakes them up and gives them the energy to get moving. What if I told you that the feeling of being "awake and energized" could last all day long? That's what Rolfing® does. It's like a cup of coffee all day long because it opens up your body to more effectively deliver oxygen to your brain. And unlike coffee, it doesn't wear off by 2pm. All of us could benefit from that!
